Yes. Life is long (if we are lucky) and we can do a lot of things that may seem unrelated and unlikely. Thanks for sharing the story of your life.

I started law school at 53 after getting my B.S. degree in general biology and working for about 20 years in laboratories and environmental consulting businesses. I never knew a lawyer. My mother had a GED, my dad quit school after 8th grade. While in law school, I did a summer internship as a public defender and knew what kind of lawyer I wanted to be. My parents died before I started law school and became a public defender. That first year or two I kept wishing I could have told them what absolutely wonderful parents they were. Lack of money is difficult, but lack of good parents is far worse. I was a very lucky child.

Your journey has some particularly interesting twists and turns – although you’ve been following your passion to make a difference. As a criminal defense attorney, you have a chance to give voice to the powerless. I think it was Ghandi who said “A nation’s greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members.”

I might add that you’re just as ruthless with your tennis serve… And overly fair when it comes to the line calls.
Thank you for “pestering me some more,” and I hope that we never have to “say hello again.”

What a moving story. Now I understand where the deep well of compassion you always exhibit in your posts on the CCDB comes from. Your family and your clients are extremely fortunate to have you.
