So glad at least THIS story about Native Americans, has a happy ending! Nice job. Now let’s see what we, the American people, can do – including the FIRST Americans (aka Native Americans) – to get Columbus Day taken OFF the National Holiday List once and for all! It continues to be a scourge upon our nation to “celebrate” such an unseemly and downright ignorant (albeit “brave” in some strange sense of the word, although what a coward to do what he did to the American Indians) human being who perpetrated such egregious and unconscionable acts upon other innocent human beings.

We (I) actually get a “paid holiday” on Columbus Day where I work – as do so many others at the Non-Profit, County, State and Federal level of employment. I never take the day off, as I don’t personally want to have anything to do with this “holiday.” Although I do get paid “double time” when I work it. I think this year I’ll contribute my extra pay to a worthwhile charitable organization – a Native American one – because I doubt our Country/federal government will do anything this year to make a change to permanently stop “celebrating” Columbus Day. But perhaps we can at least “get the ball rolling,” since I/we ARE “this country.” Maybe even “sit down” with some of these courageous Native American women who risked their freedom to tell the truth.

Thanks for writing and sharing this uplifting piece!

P.S. I bet Bernie Sanders would do away with Columbus Day! Go Bernie!
